In partnership with FIT Uganda, the CKWs disseminates daily market prices of over 46 commodities in 20 markets across Uganda. Farmers have testified to using this information as a basis for bargaining for better prices from middlemen who buy produce from their farms. "The phone said that matooke was selling for sh9000 in Bushenyi town but the middleman wanted to buy mine at sh3000. When I showed that I had that information, he bought it at sh6000, a farmer from Bushenyi testified.
Weather Information
Using our search application, CKWs can give farmers 3 day weather forecasts along with seasonal forecasts. The information is provided by the Ugandas department of meteorology.
Farming Best Practices
The CKW project team has sourced knowledge on the best recommended farming practices regarding both crops and animals from expert organizations like Ugandas National Agricultural Research Institute. The knowledge packaged in discreet actionable packs is available to CKWs and hence farmers through our CKW Search application. This knowledge base is open to expansion and improvement.
Input Supplier Directory
Uganda National Agro-Inputs Dealers Association (UNADA) allowed us access to its listing of farm input suppliers across the country that includes their locations down to sub-counties and contact information e.g telephone numbers.
Google Trader
Google, MTN Uganda and Grameen Foundation earlier developed a virtual market place where farmers can post their produce for sell and receive a response giving them contact information of interested traders. CKWs help farmers who may not have their own handsets to post their produce onto Google Trader.
