AppLab Uganda was launched thanks to funding and technical assistance from Google and infrastructure support from MTN. A relationship with Qualcomm is allowing us to expand our activities into Indonesia. We seek to build additional relationships that will allow us to increase the quantity and quality of information services that are available to the poor.
Donor financing allows AppLab to test innovative approaches to overcoming the information barriers that poor people and underserved areas face. For example, thanks to funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation our
Community Knowledge Worker Initiative is testing the concept that trusted members of the community, equipped with mobile phones, can serve as information hubs for people for collecting and disseminating agricultural information that will benefit the poor. We have a number of other high-potential ideas we would like to explore and welcome discussions about opportunities.
